Manchester United 2 – Urawa Reds 2

Manchester United were held to a 2-2 draw in their pre-season match against the Urawa Reds.  Darren Fletcher and Cristiano Ronaldo scored for Manchester, while Hideki Uchidate and Shinji Ono converted for the Urawa Reds.

Shot at 2007-07-17AS Roma acquired Ludovic Giuly from FC Barcelona Tuesday, signing the 31-year-old Frenchman to a three-year contract on Tuesday. AS Roma paid Barcelona a transfer fee of €3.2 million (US$4.4 million) for the forward, plus €400,000 (US$551,000) per season subject to Champions League qualification, Roma said in a statement.

“I am happy to be at Roma,” Giuly said. “I have so many important memories with Barcelona but now I am here to win.”

Giuly, who starter his career with Lyon and Monaco, scored 19 goals in 85 games with Barcelona. He joined the Spanish club in 2004 after helping Monaco reach the Champions League final.

Roma finished second behind Inter Milan in the Serie A last season, qualifying for the Champions League.

Kieran Richardson signs with Sunderland

Kieran RichardsonKieran Richardson signed a four-year deal with Sunderland on Monday, where he will work with former Manchester United teammate Roy Keane. Richardson joins the Black Cats after five years at United, where he played alongside Keane, who is now manager of Sunderland. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Brazil 3 – Argentina 0 Copa America Final

Brazil scored early and beat their old rivals Argentina, 3-0, on Sunday in the Copa America finals to repeat as champions.

Mexico 3 – Uruguay 1

Mexico came from behind to defeat Uruguay 3-1 to claim third place of the Copa America. Diego Lugano’s sending off in the first half greatly affected the Uruguayans.

Chelsea 2 – Club America 1

Jose Mourinho got exactly what he wanted out of Chelsea’s preseason opener. Thanks to a bold debut by Florent Malouda, the manager even got a victory as well.

John Terry and Malouda scored late second-half goals, leading Chelsea to a 2-1 win over Mexico’s Club America in the Disney Friendship Cup on Saturday night.
